19.01.10 De Lijn orders 13 additional low-floor light rail vehicles from SiemensVlaamse Vervoermaatschappij - De Lijn, an operator of mass transit systems based in Flanders (Belgium), has placed an order with Siemens Mobility for a further 13 low-floor light rail vehicles of the "Hermelijn" type for the city of Antwerp. The order is worth some 32 million euros. The trains will be delivered between October 2011 and April 2012. Siemens already supplied 112 vehicles of this type between 1999 and 2007. This new order for low-floor light rail vehicles will increase the passenger capacity of De Lijn, enabling in particular the sufficient and comfortable servicing of new routes in Antwerp. In addition, these vehicles will also be used for transporting tourists in the summer months on the coastal route between Knokke and De Panne in West Flanders. (source: Siemens, 19 January 2010)
