The International Railway Systems was founded in 2001 by well known Romanian enterpeneur, Christian Burci, the former owner of Prima TV. In 2002, IRS took over from Trinity Industries, Meva SA, one of the biggest rolling stock manufacturers in Romania, and in 2006 a major stake in the newly established Romanian private rail freight operator, Servtrans Invest. The second freight car production plant, Romvag S.A., became part of the group in 2004.

22nd an 23th of September were 6th Public Transport Days in Warsaw. During this event organisers presented some historical and modern trams, locomotives and cars, which are (or were) in use in Poland. Every interested person could see and get on PESA tram, ED74, Intercity cars, PKP Cargo locomotives, Koleje Mazowieckie EMUs and many other vehicles. Train hauled by Ok-1 steam locomotive was special atraction of that event.

PKP Regional Services (PKP PR) showed to the to the public the new ED74 class EMU manufactured by PESA Bydgoszcz. The train will service the Warszawa - ŁódĽ line, which is scheduled to be modernised by 2013. By that time the passengers will still have to face travelling the 120 distance in almost three hours, although in a new train.
